Check these out!

I found lots of cool things
on my usual rounds to websites
this morning.

The gothamist posted a blurb
about these amazing pictures
from the American Museum
of Natural History.

They most were taken when the museum
was being put together and in the very
early years of its opening.

I'm a sucker for old photos,
and these do not disappoint!

Go here to see them all,
below is a preview.

The next thing to see is from National Geographic.
It is a video of a great white shark that jumps
out of the water to catch it's prey..at night.
No one knows why, but the video is cool
and thankfully no seals seem to be harmed in the
video. it goes for the faux seal. whew.

In other news, I will be gone for the remainder
of the week.
The bf is whisking me away to the midwest
to attend a wedding, ride roller coasters, visit
his family, and possibly ride a horse...
I'll let you know how that last one goes...

Wonderful Day

Oh my goodness,
yesterday was such a wonderful
25th birthday!

The bf and I got up early to
go to brunch at Egg
(I have been addicted to their grits
as of late)
and then walk Sergio!

In the evening we headed to
Fette Sau for some delicious bbq
with some of my dearest friends!
In addition to the good company,
I received some wonderful gifts.

The bf got me a box of happy hippos,
a squid book that I had wanted forever, and
a bunny in a cage necklace from catbird
that I had my eye on. He is the best. fact.

My roommate Katie got me this magical starfish
pendant on her trip to seattle!

Christina found this belt buckle that
combines my love for gaudiness and pugs!

And Meghan has managed to find another book
that seems to have been written just for me,
and she made that lovely bracelet for me!

Many thanks to everyone who sent notes,
cards and well wishes yesterday!!
It really meant a lot!
xoxo

Goodbye 24.

Sugar- You know, I'm gonna be 25 in June.
Joe- You are?
Sugar-That's a quarter of a century, makes a girl think.

Tomorrow is my quarter century birthday,
and I couldn't be more excited!
I am mildly obsessed with
my birthday. But what good Leo,
in all of their vanity, wouldn't love a day
that was devoted entirely to them??

I plan to eat brunch, walk sergio,
maybe buy myself a present or two,
spend time with the people I love,
and eat lots of pork.

2008 hasn't been the best year
but despite all that has gone wrong,
I find myself in a place where I am happy.
With work, love, apartment, and sergio.
(He gave me kisses on the nose today!!!)

I am lucky to have all of the things that I do,
and to have a wonderful group of family and friends.

Have a good saturday everyone!!

LittleBunny Mascot!

I finally gocco'd again,
and am proud to present
my very own mascot.

I've decided to name him
Fredrick.

I printed him on notecards
and on some heart shaped papers,
which will serve as my new business cards.
rectangles are lame anyway.

Notecards are now available in my etsy store
$6 for a set of 4.
And business cards will be given with orders
or by request

Have a good friday everyone!!

A-holes....

I find out this morning
that there is talk of a
Rocky Horror remake...
This being one of my favorites
I absolutely flipped.

Hollywood is sad place where
no one can seem to come up with
original ideas anymore, so they try
to remake the classics.

Worst of all this remake is
by and for MTV. Also something that
just isn't what it used to be.

Now, if I had to cast this movie
I'd do it right.
I know MTV won't but here are my suggestions

Frank-n-Furter: Alan Cumming
No one. and I mean no one could fill Tim Curry's heels
but Alan Cumming could be an enjoyable transvestite.

Brad Majors: Matt Damon
Can pull off the nerd look, and has
a wonderful sense of humor.

Janet Weiss: Zooey Deschanel
Because she is awesome. end of story.

Rocky: David Beckham.
Think about it, awesome body
gold hotpants. And a dubbed singing voice.
Magic.

Magenta and Riff Raff: Meghan Mullally and Sean Hayes
Think of them as a goth-ish Karen and Jack.

Columbia: Feist
How cute would she be tap dancing
in sequined shorts.

Eddie: Rufus Wainwright
This part is so much better with a handsome
Eddie, not so biker, but with a killer voice.
Mainly I just picture him singing. I love his voice.

Can you get all of these people?
Probably not, but think of how sweet
this remake could be with good actors.

With MTV's remake we will have
Flavor Flav as Brad or something.
Ugh. or worse. Ashlee simpson as Janet..
gaahhhh.

Give it up mtv.

The Really Dark Knight.

The bf and I saw the new Batman yesterday.
and it was fantastic.
I was on edge for the better part of the movie
because so much is happening.

I felt like the Harvey Dent story
played out as a better version
of the latest Star Wars installment,
with Dent as Anakin Skywalker.
You watch this man change from hero
to villain and it is just heartbreaking.

Things get darker as Heath Ledger
shows up as the Joker. A true
example of just how talented he was,
he made this character very believable,
grotesque, and even funny at times.

They have such a great cast for this movie
it's almost mind blowing.
And I am so glad they replaced Katie Holmes
with Maggie Gyllenhal, not just because I adore her
but also because she is a wonderful actress
and actually gave life to Rachel Dawes.

This installment was more action than story,
and oddly enough it ended without a hint toward
the next film...so who knows what will happen
if they make a third.

If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it.

My Latest Obsession

Lately I've been on the search
for the perfect candle.
Sounds weird, I know.

But all candles are not created equal.
fact.

Sometime last summer
I was in Barney's Co-op in Soho,
and I stumbled upon the most
fantastical candles ever.
Malin+Goetz sure know their scents
let me just say that.

However, at the time I was not too keen
on spending $48 on something
that would eventually melt away.

Nearly a year later, after searching
the better part of manhattan
(read: below 14th st)
for the perfect candle, I found myself
back at Barney's Co-op shelling out $48
for the only candle that made me happy.

The scent I chose is Cannabis.
Rarely do I use the term "sexy"
to describe anything but a person
but this candle is sexy.
Musky, earthy, savory. sexy.

So if you find yourself in a candle bind
look to Malin+Goetz. Best $48 candle ever.

Randomness

Oh no!
Dumpling was adopted yesterday!
While I am indeed happy that
he found a home, I am a little
sad that he won't be moving to
South Jersey..

But I am sure that there are
other pugs that need rescuing.
So I'll continue my search!

After coming home from dog walking
I usually spend time online
blogging, emailing, etsy-ing,
and reading the latest celeb trash
on Perez Hilton.

On there I found a video gem.
Miss Feist on Sesame St
singing about counting to 4.

and you can see the original
video for 1,2,3,4 here

Never gets old if you ask me.
and who doesn't love a good sequined jumpsuit!?

And finally check out this photo feature
on National Geographic.
It's photos of all sorts of shipwrecks.
very cool.

Chicken and Dumpling.

This sweet little puggy is Dumpling,
My newest friend at the Barc Shelter.

He may soon become the newest member
of the Chambers family! Mees has been
very lonely with everyone out of the house
and since no one has adopted Dumpling yet,
I figured he would be the perfect match.

In other news, the bf and I saw Ricky Gervais
last night at Madison Sq Garden.
He was brilliant as always.

here are some clips from his stand up.

I'm heading out to work right now
hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday.

Happenings of 7.10

I woke up early to go walk
Mr. Serg McGurg Fluffyface,
and while I was transferring
my money and what nots from
the purse to the tote bag
I noticed something unusual.

At the bottom of my purse
was a plastic medallion that
my grandparents gave me when
I began driving 8 years ago.
The pendant features St. Jude
(Mom Mom and Pop Pop are/were very religious)
and it says "St. Jude Travel Club Member"

They gave me a small bag of religious items
to keep in my glove compartment, and I kept
them there more because Mom Mom and Pop Pop
had given them, than for the Jesus reason.

I have no idea how this medallion made it
into my purse..
The baggie of religious items is in a
container on my bureau, and the last time
I even remember seeing this it was still in
the little plastic container it came in....

I'm taking this as an "all systems go"
for our rtw trip, and maybe as a sign
that Pop Pop thinks it is a good idea.

I will definitely be bringing their bag
of good luck with me when i travel.

In other news, I think that I am
beginning to grow on Serg.
We had a great walk today,
very fast paced (which is unusual
for him) and I just got the feeling
that he finally was liking me.

So i took him to the little pet store
on Bedford and got him some treats.

This made him quite happy, and it
was nice to see his tail wag.
He even gave me a kiss, which he
never ever does.

Makes me sad I can't adopt him now.
I'd love to bring him home,
and give him 24-7 lovins. sigh.

Mome Raths?!

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

The bf and I have been obsessed
with the Jabberwoky poem as of late.

It was only after I heard it again,
did I realize that the beginning of the poem
is what the Cheshire Cat sings in the Disney version.

and how can I talk about Alice
without including one of my
favorite stories.

Ouch

2 days ago I took a modern class
with Christina,at Dance New Amsterdam.

I haven't taken a class in roughly a year,
and it's been roughly 7 years since I've taken
a modern class. With the exception of finding a true
parallel (It's so hard for me to not turn out)
I think I did pretty well.

It felt so good to move and stretch.
My birthday present from my parents
is going to be 10 dance classes
either at steps or dance new amsterdam.

Though I love all types of dance,
I'm still a ballerina at heart.

The bf found this on boingboing
and can't stop watching it.

after he sent me the link in an email
I can see why.

We agreed to work our butts off
for a few months and then
head out and see this world.

Featured, Creatured.

The other day a set of my cards
was actually featured in a blog!

Sweet Figments is the Tiny Fig's
blog, and it is a place to find
cool etsy stuff and interviews
with the sellers.
Also check out her store!!

Lately I haven't had the extra funds to
gocco any new card sets, but hopefully
I will be able to soon.

The next sets will be my penguins in love,
a lop eared bunny, and maybe some cupcakes.

on my way to work...
