Jamaican me laugh.

This past weekend I saw a movie
and purchased a movie.

I saw "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"
a ridiculously funny story of a man
trying to get over a break-up.
More full frontals (read: cock shots)
than I could have imagined in a comedy.
Weird, but kudos to him for putting it out there.
pun somewhat intended.
Either way, I recommend this movie
for its constant laughs, sweet story,
and charming actors.

My favorite is when he cries whilst singing the
muppet show theme song, and when aldous snow
is teaching the nerd the essentials of sex with huge chess pieces.

The movie I purchased was Lars and the Real Girl.
I absolutely love this movie.
It is so funny and charming,
and Ryan Gosling does a wonderful job
at making social awkwardness seem adorable.

My Latest Obsession

Yesterday on a very perfect Sunday,
the bf and I stopped in on the
Bust Craftacular at the Warsaw in Gpt.
It was all kinds of awesomeness
crammed into a very small space.

I never carry cash
so there wasn't much potential to buy
but I do plan on buying this via etsy.

This charming piece is by Brookadelphia.
2 ladies between bk and philly.
2 places that I happen to love.
They can do sweet custom work
and can make all your necklace dreams come true!

Penguin Suits

I was roaming around the national geographic site
and there were 3 stories that caught my eye.

1.) Shark attack off of CA coast
a 66 year old man died from, what they think is,
a great white shark attack.
It's Jaws on the opposite coast! eek!
I just hope that people don't go on a shark hunt.

Yeah- this was kind of weird.
Not sure I'm really into it.
But whatever.

3.)I saved the best for last.
a senior penguin was given a wetsuit
after he started losing his back feathers.
This wetsuit allowed him to gain some weight,
grow back some feathers,
and swim with his friends again. so cute.

Someone up there loves me.

My tax return went into my bank account today.
$2226 saved my life. fact.

I immediately wrote out a check to Apple
to pay for my mac in FULL
yes! 1 credit card down. 3 to go.
wow. when I put it that way
it doesn't sound so good...
But I am going to remain positive.

Other uses of this $ are my phone bill,
rent, and if there is some extra some gocco supplies!
Because I am dying to use it again.
It's a shame that two thousand dollars
doesn't go as far as it used to.

On another financial plus side
I got a second job!
I will be hostessing fri and sat nights
at a wine bar!! woo!

I just wanted to do a quick life update
since I am insanely happy I don't have to
borrow money from my parents to pay my bills.

I'll update with cooler stuff later!

Motivated

For whatever reason I got
a rush of motivation yesterday
and i made a pillow for my sister
and began a cheetah print squid.

She is kind of in shambles right now,
but as soon as I get some more
black thread, she will be whole.
Though I may not have enough fabric
for all the legs....so I may take some creative license...
and give this squid 6 or 7 legs.

it's finally spring in brooklyn
the trees are blooming and everyone
brought out their short shorts.
I love new york in the springtime!

Wishes Do Come True

The bf and I have a magical connection
we can always make eachothers dreams come true.
I found a golden telescope, fried ice cream,
and other various things for him.
He has surprised me with Kinder Sopressa's,
tickets to rufus, gene wilder shirts,
and now a GOCCO!!!
Yes, I have the best boyfriend ever.
I came home from charleston
to my very own gocco.
Which I have been pining for
since I found out about it!

I messed up my first screen
by not erasing my pencil sketch
thinking- oh it wont shoot.
but it did. booo.
it was a squid hugging a bunny
so cute but so ruined...
 my second screen was used
to make thank you cards for my orders.

I think they turned out pretty cute.
Once I get my tax return I will buy
more bulbs, screens and inks
and really start to make some art!

Another new obsession are these slippers.
My sister had an extra pair
and let me have these.
They are super comfy!!

Back in Brooklyn

My trip to Charleston was
absolutely excellent!

We had so much fun,
laughed until we cried,
relaxed and over-ate.

I'm in the process of job hunting
and cleaning so this will be a short post.
here are some photos!

feeding my addiction.

A big thank you to the gothamist site
for opening my eyes to SubwayCrush.com

Think Missed Connections but without
the chain letters and boring "i miss you" threads.
This is strictly subway sightings.

I don't know what it is,
but reading the blurbs these people write
can entertain me for hours.

This is one of my favorites from the C train:

I see you pretty often on the C train in the mornings.
You get on at Lafayette stop -- brunette, grey-blue eyes.
There's always that guy who plays the Star Wars music from his phone
when young girls get on. It's super irritating.
He never plays the music for you, but he should,
because you're hot.

best.thing.ever.

By the way...I leave for Charleston tomorrow!!
so I will not be blogging for a few days.
See you when I return!

Brooklyn Fleas.

Yesterday the bf and I
explored the newest Brooklyn event.
a fantastical market in Fort Greene
that is filled with handmade and vintage treasures.

There was even an etsy booth with some
etsylabs treasures.

In the hunt for rings we stumbled upon
the VeraMeat Booth.
I've seen her pieces in Catbird before,
and have been dying for the anchor ring
(which I will be treating myself to with my tax return)
But we also liked the mini shell ring
for other purposes.

But the biggest treasure of all
was this vintage cheetah hatbox.
I love all things cheetah-
and decided that I needed to have this
in order to survive.
The seller's name was Albert an he and his wife
have the bottom right corner of the lot
filled with vintage treasures.
He was so sweet to let me have it for 50$
Now I can travel in total gaudy style. yesssss

Charleston, SC

In honor of my approaching trip
I figured I'd highlight some of my favorite spots
in the city.

There are a few shops that I frequented
when I was a resident and still visit
whenever I make it down there.

52.5 records-wonderful selection of
music, rental movie section in the back.
and sweet magazines that you can't find
anywhere else in Chucktown.

Rosita Jones-Currently this shop is closed
but will be reopening ASAP.
It is hands down, the best clothing shop in Charleston.
If you hate Abercrombie- go there.
(when it opens back up of course)

And believe it or not, there are 2 (TWO!!)
authentic italian gelaterias.
Run by actual Italians!!
That equals the best gelato ever.
Go to Modica (on George St.)
and Paolo's (John st. ....i think...)

When I visit, I'll take pictures of all these places
because they are hard to find online..

I cannot wait to walk along the Battery,
you get the beautiful view of the water, palm trees
and gorgeous southern homes.

And finally, my favorite restaurant, Meritage.
Located on 235 E Bay Street, it is only a couple
blocks away from the open air market
and center of town.
When I lived down there,
 I would go whenever possible.

They have the best hummus on the planet.
And it's a tapas place so everything is in smaller portions
perfect for sharing. or being a hog.
This is an old picture of my roommates and I
the first time we ever had went to Meritage.

Wish List

These are some things
that I really would love to own.

1.)Gocco
I am thinking that with my tax return I will treat myself to the magical printer.
I could make squids and bunnies galore!

2.)Adobe Illustrator and a nice printer/scanner
For obvious reasons. but it's just too expensive.

3.)New Digital Camera
Something that takes quick sharp photos.

4.)This necklace from Lusterstudio

Gocco and the necklace are possible
the camera and illustrator- not so much.
When I get back from Charleston I am looking for a second job...

When you wish upon a starfish.

All of your dreams come true.
Especially if it's this giant starfish
that was just discovered
in the icy waters of the Antarctic.
30,000 creatures were collected
and many of them are brand new!

Those giant starfish measure 24" in length.
creepy and amazing at the same time!

Here are some more of the critters
they found at the bottom of the sea.

I feel as though I have seen this guy before,
so he may not be new.
But he was 1 of 18 different species of octopus that was found.

This frightening fish is called a stareater.
Like other deep sea fish, that little stringy
extension lights up in the depths and lures
in prey.

This is an amphipod, kind of shrimpy looking.
he was recently seen on this trip, but was first
discovered in 1994.

I know it's spring...

When I get the urge to start baking.
It's weird- I know this.

Most people get the urge to bake in the winter.
When the weather is crap, and the holidays are here.
"Not I" said the redhead.
When the trees start to bloom and the weather gets warm
I get out my mixing bowls and cake pans.

Today I made Banana Nut Bread.
(a longtime favorite- I like it with TONS of butter.)
I found a recipe online that was simple-
with none of that low fat nonsense.

Banana Nut Bread

*3 ripe bananas, mashed
*1 egg, well beaten
*1 stick of butter, melted, cooled
*1 cup of granulated sugar (i used sugar in the raw)
*1 tsp salt
*1 tsp baking soda
*1/2 cup chopped nuts

In large mixing bowl, mix together the mashed bananas, beaten egg, and melted butter.
Sift together the flour, salt, sugar, and baking soda.
Stir until well blended.
Stir in nuts.

Pour batter into a 9x5" loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes.

So simple, I love it.
I have about 27 minutes to go
but it looks good so far
and smells deliciously buttery.
(can you tell that i love butter??)

I think I will make this a new thing-
I'll post each new recipe I bake this spring!

Randomness.

I'm currently at war with my allergies.
So my brain is a bit foggy.
This post is going to be
the most random thing ever.
fact.

I've been on a quest to be healthier as of late.
Trying to buy less factory foods,
eat more fresh veggies,
and stay clear of high fructose corn syrup.
I talk to friends about this often,
and the other day my friend Christina
suggested that i youtube Michael Pollan.
I did, and found out that he is the author of
the "Omnivore's Dilemma" and "In Defense of Food".
This video is from a google talk he did,
and it is really interesting.
It's kind of long but if you
don't have time to watch the whole thing,
at least skip around!

New Kids on the Block decided to make their comeback today.
If you were like me, then you had NKOTB everything.
I had the bedsheets, sleeping bag, pajamas, Joe doll
(I really wanted to be Mrs. Joey McIntyre.)

I don't really know how I feel about this comeback.
On the today website it said that the guys are all pushing 40.
I'm going to be honest.
I don't know if they can pull off the same kind of choreography anymore.
And without that (and that sweet 80's wardrobe)

I don't know that I'm sold.
NKOTB in suits? don't think so.

My friend and I will be there on the 16th of May
for their first live performance since 1994.
Mainly because we had spent hours laughing
at their concert videos in our younger years.
There are too many NKOTB inside jokes.
We need to be there to have more laughs.

Last but not least
I just want to say that I miss my dog.
(She lives in New Jersey)
This is Mees snuggling in a laundry basket.
I love her.

Hooray for April!

I'm pretty excited that April is here.
I leave for Charleston in 15 days!
it'll be a long weekend with my ladies
at the Mills House

This is headed my way from Elise

My sister finds out if she is having a boy or girl-
(I think it is a boy and the bf and I want her
to name him Reggie.)
And I will dress him like this..
though I hope Reggie won't look
as sad as this kid.
Clearly no cephalopod appreciation.

And April means better weather!
Woo!
I can't wait to break out my hotpants again.
FACT!
